Jörn Brenscheidt was able to really let loose in a detached house near Kassel. The brief for the stairs, which extend over three storeys, was simply that they be suitable for the modern house design, otherwise the designer was given carte blanche. The result is cantilevered stairs designed with the best veneer and with integrated LED lighting. “The stairs substructure is made of steel. We made the top surface of the steps from multi-ply bonded thick veneer from oak, the underside is made of acrylic glass faced with 0.7 millimetre thick oak veneer”, says Brenscheidt. Between these is state-of-the-art LED technology, the light shines downwards through the veneer on the underside of the step. “In this way we achieve unique lighting of the steps and therefore the entire staircase, individually changeable thanks to state-of-the-art bus technology; the lighting provides the perfect backdrop to show the full beauty of the wood colour and the natural figure of the veneer”, explains Brenscheidt. If the LEDs are switched off the lighting technology is invisible and the stairs look like normal stairs. “Where “normal” is naturally relative in view of the always attractive veneer surface”, smiled the designer. Ursula Geismann, Secretary of Initiative Furnier + Natur (IFN), agrees wholeheartedly: “As I personally saw the staircase for the first time I was thrilled. I can think of hardly any other way in which to present unique veneer better.” IFN/DS

Innovation in the staircase: Illuminated steps show the unique beauty of veneer
Bad Honnef. Unusual projects and veneer are made for each other: The almost inexhaustible repertoire from the best that wood has to offer ranges from veneer spectacles to veneer skis through to veneer bags. It now also brings all its attractiveness to bear as a unique, illuminated stair step. This work of art was designed for the staircase - in cooperation with LeuchtNatur GmbH in Grabenstätt that supplied the panels - by Jörn Brenscheidt of hokon, who approached the fillet of the tree step by step and full of drive.Jörn Brenscheidt was able to really let loose in a detached house near Kassel.
