Furniture with a unique look: Veneer refines conference tables and desks
Bad Honnef. Conference tables and desks with fine veneer sur-faces lend offices and conference rooms a personal and stylish touch. Wilhelm Renz GmbH + Co. KG based in Böblingen has already furnished many offices and conference rooms with con-ference tables and desks with an exclusive and unique veneer look. “Our desks combine top quality and functionality with an exclusive veneer design, says Eckart Renz, managing director of Wilhelm Renz GmbH + Co. KG.
Last year the Stuttgart office of an internationally operating person-nel consultancy moved into its new premises in the Dorotheen Quarter in in the city center. Great importance was given to an ele-gant and high-quality fitout for the furnishings of the offices. The contrast between the bright office architecture and the desks with surfaces made of dark smoked oak veneer creates a stylish and pleasant working atmosphere.
The smoked oak used comes from the wood of the European oak, which acquires a darker colour through steaming with substances containing ammonia. The tannic acid in the wood reacts with the ammonia during steaming. The colouring ranges from hazelnut brown through to an almost black dark brown. As no two veneers are the same, very different surfaces result - each a real one-of-a-kind. “Veneer is the thinnest solid world in the world and is thus one of the naturally renewable raw materials. It is very valuable due to the time-consuming work required to make and use it. Furniture with veneer surfaces is a very sparing way of using natural resources and, if looked after properly, is extremely durable, says the Secretary of Initiative Furnier + Natur, Ursula Geismann.
