Ecological and varied: Veneer is a trending material

Bad Honnef. The biennial interzum in Cologne (21 to 24 May 2019) is and remains the worldwide leading trade fair of suppliers in the furniture and fitout sector. This has included manufacturers, traders and installers of real wood veneer from the outset. They are organised in the veneer trade association, the European Initiative Furnier + Natur (IFN). The IFN has a stand at the interzum in Hall 4.2, D 76 for trade visitors interested in the natural material veneer. Positioned in the middle of its member companies, the stand presents unusual exhibits made of or with veneer.

The intention of the IFN stand is to address and inform trade visitors such as buyers, engineers, architects, interior designers and designers. Veneer can be used traditionally, but also with a personalised surface for a shop fitout, for example, in which the veneers are specifically printed. In addition, it is now possible to produce particular individual surfaces such as brushed, rough-sawn, coarse-fibred, ripple-planed and chopped looks. Veneer is “green”, because it is completely sustainable. And veneer will continue to gain importance, especially in view of people's increasing sensitivity to plastic and plastic waste. Drinking cups, bank cards, tableware and cutlery, and even clothing and shoes made of veneer variations are already available. Lampshades, handbags, spectacle frames, kiteboards and other products are presented in the IFN “Veneer Stories” campaign www.WoodVeneerStories. They show what is possible and bear witness to the industry's ecological responsibility.

The IFN is an internationally active association with members in Switzerland, Slovenia, Slovakia, Estonia, Austria, Belgium and Germany, which pays particular attention to highlighting the ecological and individual qualities of veneer. The signs are good within the IFN veneer family, the mood prior to the interzum 2019 is positive and optimism encourages strategies for the future. On the IFN interzum stand there is information and plenty of visual material: for example, a veneer floor, different sound-absorbing veneer panels decorate the walls, a tree is simulated by a veneer pillar ensemble and a lounger with perforated veneer surface invites visitors to relax.
