Individual in size and surface:
Veneered office tables from the
brand furniture manufacturer Walter Knoll

Bonn/Herrenberg. Noble, sustainable, natural: these three words perfectly describe the conference tables and desks veneered with different variants of the wood of oak or walnut from the renowned German brand furniture manufacturer Walter Knoll.

Known as a mastermind of the modern office and celebrated for his clean design, designer Wolfgang C. R. Mezger, for example, developed the intelligent and chic modular system of the "Scale-Media" conference table series, which offers employees plenty of space to exchange ideas or engage in informative conversations. The three Austrian designers Martin Bergmann, Gernot Bohmann and Harald Gründl from EOOS, on the other hand, with whom Walter Knoll has been working for over 25 years, have created a modern interpretation of the classic desk towards inviting communication and, of course, with a veneered surface on request, with the "Keypiece Communication Desk" desk model. "Veneer is not considered the 'fillet of the tree' for nothing. Wafer-thin, it is used as a chic and sustainable surface material for all kinds of furniture, individually and in a natural-warm look," explains Ursula Geismann, long-time trend analyst and managing director of the Initiative Furnier + Natur (IFN). This is also the case for a wide variety of furniture made by the Walter Knoll company, including smaller and larger conference tables and desks for solo self-employed people, medium-sized businesses and large companies all over the world.

Depending on the veneer used, the result is always a different look. Be it fine grains with a homogeneous appearance or more contrasting structures: with the noble natural material of wood, any environment can be furnished appropriately and, above all, long-lasting. "Veneered conference tables sometimes resemble an artist's sculptures. They represent good taste and a sustainable work culture of the client and inspire the viewer with their warm natural tones as soon as they enter the room," says Geismann. The sculptural face applies once again to desks like the Tama Desk, which can almost be considered veneer art. The veneer gives it that certain something. "Refined with the natural material from the forest, each desk is a real eye-catcher that does not exist in exactly the same way a second time in the world. A piece of furniture with a sustainable guarantee of uniqueness, regardless of whether it is designed with architectural clarity or playful curves," explains Ursula Geismann. The "Scale-Media" series functions as a size-scalable model, something that not every professional furniture design succeeds in doing for a long time. The "Keypiece Communication Desk" is also offered in a height-adjustable version, thus combining beauty and function in contemporary perfection. IFN/DS
