Designer lamps from Cologne:
Bonn/Cologne. This is where real craftsmanship is called for: at Gofurnit from Cologne, luminous works of art are made with great effort from precious veneers. In the production of the designer lamps for floors, walls, ceilings or, for example, the cozy dining table, sustainability is in the foreground. Starting with the origin of the veneers to the upcycling of production residues to plastic-free packaging material and CO2-neutral shipping.
At Gofurnit, fine designer lamps are produced by a small team of enthusiastic veneer lovers. The wood for these comes from FSC-certified manufacturers, and the veneer is produced in Germany, where it is also given a specially developed fabric structure. This makes it particularly flexible and durable - crucial for the production of the spiral-shaped lamps offered by the Cologne-based company. "We select and process the individual wafer-thin strips of wood with particular care. Thanks to their spiral-shaped arrangement, you don't have to deal with dust deposits, and the wood, which is treated with a UV varnish, is overall particularly resistant to sunlight, robust and easy to care for at the same time," says Manuel Döpper, designer and managing director of Lampenschmiede. And he also has a tip for anyone who wants to clean a spiral lamp made of veneer after all: "A simple duster or a slightly damp cloth is quite enough," says the veneer professional. The leftovers from the production of the lamps are further processed into bookmarks and fruit bowls. "We donate a large portion of the proceeds from these incidentally manufactured products to the Schutzgemeinschaft Deutscher Wald e.V., which is committed to reforesting native forests," says Döpper. "This is another fine example of what a great material veneer is. Veneered furniture and furnishings are still in high demand on the part of the industry and also customers. In addition, the individual natural material has long since arrived in designer circles and also has a say in environmental protection," concludes Ursula Geismann, a long-time living analyst and managing director of the Initiative Furnier + Natur (IFN). Initiative Veneer + Nature (IFN) The Initiative Furnier + Natur (IFN) e.V. was founded in 1996 by the German veneer industry and its partners. Today, it is supported by European companies from the veneer industry, trade and the veneer processing industry as well as trade associations of the wood industry. The aim of the association is to promote veneer as a natural and climate-friendly all-rounder material.
