Schorn & Groh GmbH:
Pure elegance for a new location of Sparkasse Markgraeflerland in Weil am Rhein

Zülpich/Karlsruhe. A good 2,500 square metres of the finest oak veneer adorn the new location of Sparkasse Markgräflerland in Weil am Rhein. The natural material was supplied by veneer experts Schorn & Groh GmbH from Karlsruhe.

Timeless beauty and visible sustainability were key components of the plans for the location, which now offers space for around 190 employees. The Sparkasse building, designed by the renowned architectural firm LRO from Stuttgart, consists of a recessed ground floor and three floors above, which extend beyond two axes of the building. The ground floor houses a large event room and above it an atrium that provides light to the ring-shaped upper floors. A curved main staircase forms a contrasting accent to the linear structure of the building. Rooms for concentrated work and meetings have been set up at the front of the building. In order to design the building with sustainability in mind, the creators took two approaches: firstly, versatile felt curtains were installed to easily separate individual meeting areas. In addition, the feco wall system from feco Feederle - also based in Karlsruhe - was used. The company used 2,500 square metres of high-quality, PEFC-certified oak veneer to create attractive doors, wall coverings and partition walls that are easy to install and remove. "The result is truly impressive. The veneer adds a visually attractive accent to the otherwise rather austere walls and ceilings and skilfully conveys an impression of how easy it is to incorporate nature into the working environment with real wood," said IFN Managing Director Dirk-Uwe Klaas, concluding his comments on the project in Weil am Rhein.
