How it's made: IFN publishes animated film about veneer production

Bad Honnef. Initiative Furnier und Natur e. V. (IFN) has released a new animated film. Clear and on trend, it shows step-by-step, how fine veneer is made from a tree. The film with the title “So wird Furnier hergestellt” can be found on the internet at www.youtube.com/watch?v=8h-KOEQCUsM. Due to the association's international reach, an English version of the film, “How veneer is made”, has also been published on the IFN YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/watch?v=C2nwuyhx_aI. “Our new explanatory film visualises veneer production in an easy to understand way and explains why the natural material contributes to climate protection”, said the IFN Secretary Ursula Geismann.

The new film shows the complete range of veneer production: Starting with the search for the “right” tree to the stripping of the bark, the cutting to length as well as the slicing or peeling of the tree logs through to the drying of the thin veneer sheets. “Depending on the girth (circumference), up to 5,000 sqm veneer can be produced from a single tree, because the natural material is extremely thin”, reported Ms Geismann.

The fine veneer sheets can be used to finish kitchen fronts and furniture or to transform lifestyle objects such as kiteboards or bags. Many fascinating possible uses of the natural materials are shown in the short videos of the IFN “VeneerStories” campaign at www.furniergeschichten.de. All English films can be found at www.furnier.de/en/wood-veneer-stories/index.html. IFN/RK
